    Vista/Mint 13 dual boot

I have just started out with Linux and installed Mint 13 on a Vista PC. I am administrator in the GUI
When I am in terminal I can't get into root via sudo, when I installed it I don't recall being asked for a root username or password.
If I type sudo (username) it replies with [sudo] password for username, whe typed in it says sudo : username : command not found. (where username is my name). Will I have to re-install and set a root username and password?
    Any help much appreciated

Try 'su' in the terminal. Enter your root password.
