It really deppends on your computer. But, in general, installing a mainstream OS like Ubuntu or Fedora is just a matter of downloading the .iso file, burning it to a disk, rebooting the computer with the disk inside, and following the install instructions.

If you can give us some more specifics, like the specs on your computer, we will be able to give move detailed help.
