What's the best Netbook distribution?

What's the best Netbook distribution in your opinion?

Even after Ubuntu and Ubuntu Netbook Remix merged, I still think Ubuntu is pretty great for netbooks. What about you? Do you prefer something more minimalistic?

I vote for Puppy Linux.

Here you have two choices. Go for Lucid Puppy which is based on Ubuntu. Or go for Slacko Puppy which is based on Slackware. Both are small. Not the smallest but still small enough to fit on a pendrive. A small pendrive. The Puppy Linux files take up less than 150 Mb of space. I use both distros but I am a bit inclined to Slacko Puppy because it's newer and has support for 3G modems.

I'd personally want something with more stuff, Puppy is too minimal for my tastes. And I'd install it on the netbook's hard drive as well, not a pendrive

Puppy comes with the minimum required to get to work. If you want more, you can still install from the Pet Installer. If you want more than that, make sure you start with Lucid Puppy because that's based on Ubuntu. With Lucid Puppy, you will be able to install all programs in the Ubuntu database.

I have tried another way, too. I started with Debian and built from there. Debian is more conservative than Ubuntu so the programs available are not as many as that available under Ubuntu. However, Debian programs tend to be chosen more for stability.

If you like to have a lot of programs at your finger tips and yet have a minimalist interface, you can consider using Debian and then run it with either the XFCE or LXDE desktop environment.

Bodhi Linux runs fast on netbooks. It's based on Ubuntu but uses Enlightenment as the window manager. I put it on an old Toshiba NB205 netbook that struggled with Ubuntu and Kubuntu, and it flies.

Xubuntu works well on my son's netbook. Regular Ubuntu, on the other hand, tends to be sluggish on that computer. Lubuntu would probably be good too.

Yes, Lubuntu uses LXDE so it would most likely run pretty snappy on that computer.

I prefer puppy for lower-end machines, but realistically just about anything with work well enough these days.
