I'm all for going the long way round to learn something new, however I just use this website http://www.youtube-mp3.org/ to do any conversions.

Having said that I can use your script for something that I have planned - Secrets

Looks very promising. I've had troubles installing FFmpeg on my CentOS server before, i wanted it setup for my friends aviation based video gallery, and for some reason i went wrong in it's installation.

But this time i'll give it a try again, Thanks for the step by step tutorial on this.

Pretty much similar to what I did at the weekend but not Cent. It works so far anyhow.

As a Windows user soon to become a Linux user, I am quite interested in converting a YouTube video into an MP3 file. I spend a good amount of my free time listening to music, so this can come into great use soon. Seems a bit complex, though.

Not really complex, but the intimidation is one reason why writing scripts to do 1+ tasks as one is so common. If you run into issues though feel free to ask for help.

Thank you for the article, that's great info.

I wasn't aware Linux had this extent of functionality, in honesty.

There is a much easier way to do this. There are plenty of websites online that will rip the audio/make an MP3 file of the audio of a youtube video for you automatically.....
