I had a desktop that wasn't cleaned and very dusty get really hot and this smell like burnt rubber came from it and you could smell it throughout the house. Shut it down immediately. But nothing...

This is a really good tutorial, particularly for me who doesn't know too much as a relatively new Linux (Ubuntu) user.

I honestly can't remember, the only thing I can think of is that I used Dogpile rather than just Google when I started using the internet, but beyond that I have no idea.

Pfftt. It's not always the US government. Take Kony for example- a group of people that think they're social activists.

I used to have the exact same Logitech mouse. It's comfortable and everything, but it broke, or rather, stopped working, after 2 years. Which is very un-Logitech-like considering they tend to make...

The best site is probably:
http://zamzar.com/
There's also:
http://www.youtube-mp3.org/ (mp3 files only)
http://www.video2mp3.net/ (mp3 files only)...

Congress knows very well what the internet is. They want to control it because they realize the potential and PR that it has.
-
I believe that the fear is that eventually people will get tired of the constant protesting and in that time they will push one through. I mean, Wikipedia can't afford to go off-line just whenever.

I got a new computer and was having issues with my old one (a relatively new computer as well). It was running Windows Vista and randomly freezing and crap. I decided, hell, let's try Linux. And...

I still believe that even if these things do get pushed through they will be impossible to control. The internet is too big, and it's growing far too fast for anyone to control. It would take a...

Is it similar to Windows? That's what I've heard. Plus from the screenshots on their website it looks very, as you say, elegant.
-
I've never heard of this, but this sounds amazing. I had no idea that there was something this far in the works to actually have a Linux-Windows compatible OS. If this ends up being relatively...
-
Yes it has that going for it, in addition to the fact that you are not going to have people taking the time to create malware for an operating system that like 7% of computer users use. Same reason...

"Dual boot" you mean? No, so long as you have already paid for Windows you can, for free, run Ubuntu or Mint or Xubuntu or whatever you want side-by-side. Just make sure that your PC can handle it.

I actually wrote an article about this very topic not too long ago.

If you're on Windows what anti-virus are you running? Because constantly browsing the web with Windows and no anti-virus, even a free one, is just asking to get infected with something. If you...

I'm looking forward to Mint as well, I am hearing a lot of rumors about new features and sexy new layouts.
-
I actually needed to do a project with this a while back- what exactly are you trying to do with music creation and what kinds of features are you looking for?
-
Nope, it's just easier to use Windows and not ever having compatibility issues. Linux is what I use at home on my laptop.
-
I started to use Ubuntu not very long before Unity came out, however, I still preferred it prior to Unity's release. But maybe that's because I tend to not like "radical changes" in my desktop haha.

100% free.
You can try out the different "flavors" of it, all free. Some of the big ones are Ubuntu or Linux Mint.
-
Nice specs, that's pretty similar to what I've got and it works pretty good.
-
I wouldn't do this simply because there are some really great apps that are Android-only... wouldn't want to lose that. Plus I would fear loss of compatibility with my phone.

Linux has plenty of good games on it, and I play a few of them on my laptop, however, they aren't mainstream games. If you want to play new games, either use dual-boot or have a second computer.
-
I spend around four hours every day on the computer, sometimes it's productive, other times... not so much.
